- The Sagebush Award is given to a member or members of the Young Adult Library Services for the development of an outstanding reading or literature program for young adults.
- The Award is sponsored by the Sagebrush Corporation, a library technology provider.
- The Award provides a grant of $1,000 to the recipient to enable them to attend the ALA Annual conference.
- Past recipients of the award have been involved with a variety of projects, from setting up conferences to reading programs in detention centers to summer-reading clubs. Joanna Peled, the 2007 winner, motivated teens to read through her "That's My Take" program, in which they made movie trailers of their favorite books.
- Applications for the award can be supported with copies of correspondence, promotional materials, photographs, media coverage, etc.
