Kudos for those who established and have been keeping this project alive. It's a worthy cause, and a beautiful way to promote literacy by honoring and giving voice to previously unheard communities, and allowing them be heard in schools by both indigenous and non-indigenous students.

- Initially this was a collaborative indigenous book project funded by the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Catholic Education Office, and the Commonwealth Department of Education and Traning. When funding from these sources came to an end, an entity was needed to continue the work, and that's how Indij Readers Ltd. was established, in 2002, as a not for commercial profit publishing company.
- The aim of the materials they develop is to help indigenous and non-indigenous students ("little fullas and big fullas", as they say) learn to read and explore contemporary indigenous perspectives.
- By publishing Indigenous literacy materials, they also seek to encourage and assist emerging indigenous authors, illustrators, musicians, etc.
- Each story or project follows a process of consultation and collaboration between Indij Readers' staff and indigenous community members.
- Literacy professionals write teacher's guides to ensure high quality resources that include: lesson plans, cultural information, useful websites, activity sheets and reference material.
- Donation to this cultural organzization are tax deductible.
