One Peace: True Stories of Young Activists

One Peace: True Stories of Young Activists

written and illustrated by Janet Wilson (Orca, 2008)

Book of the Month

"One Peace is a moving testament to the courage and initiative of youth, as it celebrates the accomplishments of children from around the globe who have worked to promote world peace."

Portraits of young activists from Afghanistan, Liberia, Sarajevo, Japan, Cambodia, Canada and more introduce us to their inspiring work and their commitment to "being the change" they wish to see in the world.

Kudos to Janet Wilson for writing such an important book, and to Orca for publishing it and making its message available to all.

Tiger Tales

March 2009

PaperTigers' focus for this first issue of 2009 stems from the growing global awareness of the power of children to change the world.

The recognition of children's power to raise awareness of important issues, and to devise and engage in ways to address them, is at the core of our new book reviews, interviews, galleries, articles and suggested resources. We highlight stories of young people determined to speak up, to help others, to solve problems creatively; as well as ideas and resources for adults seeking ways to motivate and empower the younger generation.

Through these features, we pay tribute to all children and the small, sure-footed steps they can and do take to change the world.

Personal Views:

In Books Can Shape A Child's Heart, author Mitali Perkins suggests titles to help children "widen their hearts and their world"...

Children as Change-Makers: On and Off The Pages by Aline Pereira highlights stories where young people take a stand and create change for themselves and for their communities...

Book Reviews:

Many of our new reviews feature books which will inspire readers to take action for a better world - read these and all our reviews from PaperTigers, CCBC and Books for Keeps...

Lists & Links:

Our reading lists and links to online resources make for a perfect springboard to more information, inspiration and action. Enjoy!
